The event will kick off with two keynote speeches, followed by a panel discussion. Dr. Christina Deckwirth, LobbyControl Berlin, will first talk about common practice in political association activities with reference to the climate crisis. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schroeder, University of Kassel, will talk about the function of social participation in the political process and show local possibilities for action.

In addition to Dr. Deckwirth and Prof. Dr. Schroeder, Hans Eichel (former Federal Minister of Finance, Prime Minister of Hesse and Mayor of Kassel), Marie Ossenkopf (kassel kohlefrei), Gregor Anselmann (Kasseler Radentscheid) and Patrick Rohde (BUND Berlin) will participate in the panel discussion. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Heidi Möller (University of Kassel).

The panel discussion will address, among other things, the question of how the local transport and energy transition can be advanced through political commitment in order to achieve climate neutrality in Kassel by 2030. The audience is to be involved in the discussion and a constructive culture of discussion and debate is to be developed.

Background:
In August last year, the "Kassel Climate Crisis Talk" was held by various Kassel climate initiatives. Around 300 people took part in the event, which consisted of two expert presentations followed by a panel discussion with politicians* from the parliamentary groups represented in Kassel City Hall. After the great success of the first Kassel Climate Crisis Talk, this event format will now be continued as part of a series of events organized by Scientists for Future Kassel (S4F Kassel).
The main focus will be to promote solutions for a successful energy and transport transition to achieve climate neutrality in our city and to discuss them with a broad audience.  The focus is deliberately on local challenges and options for action.

Who are the Scientists for Future?
Scientists for Future (S4F) is an initiative of scientists* that published a broadly agreed, science-based statement on climate change and appropriate countermeasures in March 2019. 26,800 scientists* from Germany, Austria and Switzerland signed the statement. The aim is to explicitly reaffirm the demands of the Fridays for Future movement for a different climate policy and to objectify the dialogue with politics and society through scientifically validated findings. S4F is subdivided into regional groups, which work in individual cities and regions to bring scientific expertise into politics and society. S4F sees itself as a non-institutional, non-partisan and interdisciplinary association of scientists who are committed to a sustainable future. The regional group S4F Kassel was founded in August 2019 and consists of about 150 members from different departments, mainly from the University of Kassel and the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology.
