The University of Kassel mourns the death of former President Prof. Neumann

"During his tenure, very central landmarks were laid that contribute to the positive image of the University of Kassel to this day," says Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey, acting president. Among other things, the university library, the refectory and the new lecture halls were opened during his presidency.

However, Prof. Neumann, a political scientist, shaped the university not only architecturally, but also through his style of leadership. "He always took academic self-government seriously and, in his calm, approachable way, understood how to win the committees over to his ideas," summarizes Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ulrich Huster, Prof. Neumann's longtime companion.

After his term of office, Prof. Neumann was again active in university teaching, among others at the universities in Jena and Tampere/Finland. Neumann was co-editor of the "Lexikon der Politik", a standard work in political science. Prof. Neumann, who comes from the Sudetenland, also made a name for himself on the political stage in the Giessen district, including as head of the Giessen district council from 2001 to 2011.

"On behalf of the University of Kassel, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families - Professor Neumann will not be forgotten here at the University," says University President Prof. Finkeldey.
