In Germany Year "Wonderful Together" - a joint initiative of the Federal Foreign Office, the Goethe-Institut and the Federation of German Industries - Minister President Volker Bouffier will travel to the United States and Canada from July 7 to 14. The Minister President will be accompanied by a delegation from politics, business and science, including the presidents of Darmstadt Technical University, Goethe University Frankfurt, Justus Liebig University Giessen, Kassel University and Philipps University Marburg, as well as Offenbach University of Applied Sciences and Central Hesse University of Technology. On site, the scientific delegation will be accompanied by the head of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) branch office in New York, Benedikt Brisch, who is responsible for Canada and the USA.

There have been strong institutional ties and a variety of contacts between Hessen's universities and partner universities in the U.S. and Canada, in some cases for decades. One example is the statewide Hessen-Wisconsin University Cooperation, through which all 14 Hessen state universities are linked in partnership with universities in the University of Wisconsin System. Currently, some 60 Hessian and American students benefit from this each year through reciprocal study visits.

Transatlantic cooperation in research and teaching is of particular importance to Hessen's colleges and universities. Although the complex higher education systems in the U.S. and Canada differ greatly from Germany, at the same time both countries are characterized by a special scientific performance and innovative strength. This creates a special potential for cutting-edge research and the expansion of scientific relationships with very interesting and renowned cooperation partners.
