In the "Crowdfunding Contest", social projects solicit support

Whether sustainable seed confetti, a freestyle hall for young people or the involvement of dogs in the care of victims of domestic violence - all eleven projects competing in the UNIKAT Crowdfunding Contest have one thing in common: they have a social focus and contribute with their project to improving our region in social terms. In the crowdfunding contest format, they are now soliciting financial support in order to be able to begin implementation shortly.

In the crowdfunding contest, projects have the opportunity to present themselves online and raise financial support within a period of four weeks. Every citizen can contribute a small amount to strengthen social diversity in Kassel. The five projects that gain the most supporters will be rewarded with additional prize money totaling 12,000 euros at the end of the contest, on May 29, 2019. The crowdfunding contest is under the patronage of Kassel Mayor Ilona Friedrich and is organized by the University of Kassel, Science Park Kassel, Wirtschaftsförderung Region Kassel as well as Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Nordhessen and AKGG.

In total, more than 20 projects had applied to participate in the contest. Eleven projects were selected on the basis of qualitative criteria. The selected projects all have a social focus, but differ enormously in their subject matter. The Seed Confetti project wants to curb the waste created by common confetti and at the same time create new flowering areas for bees and insects. Other projects want to create a place for people to interact - such as the Freestyle Halle in the Wesertor district or the Hafentreff in Unterneustadt. Also included are projects that want to support people in difficult life situations through special offers or deal with the topics of consumption and plastic waste.

The crowdfunding contest model is already being carried out in Kassel for the second time. In the documenta year 2017, eleven cultural projects were presented in the contest "Kultur macht schön". By the end of the contest, 1,049 people had supported the projects and contributed more than 40,000 euros to their implementation. Including the prize money, more than 50,000 euros were thus invested in cultural projects. The Cultural Office of the City of Kassel was a partner in the contest and in this way traditional cultural funding was combined with crowdfunding.

An overview of all projects in this year's round as well as the possibility to support them can be found on the contest homepage: www.contest.unikat-crowdfunding.de.

The prize money in the "social is sexy" contest is provided by HÜBNER GmbH & Co. KG, Kasseler Sparkasse, Wintershall Holding GmbH and Techniker Krankenkasse.
