Learning sustainability - New project studies on the topic of "sustainable university

Sustainability can be learned at the University of Kassel. The university's Graduate Center for Environmental Research and Teaching is offering new project study opportunities in the 2018/19 winter semester. Students from all departments learn how to put their expertise into practice in practical sustainability projects. They can also earn key competency points. The project studies are part of the seminar series "Teaching for a Sustainable University".

In the Graduate Center's project studies, student groups work with faculty on projects related to sustainability and the environment. The topics are diverse. In the "Sustainability on the Table" project, students learn how to handle food in an ecological, resource-conserving way. The project "Solarcampus" imparts the necessary knowledge to develop concepts for saving energy.

The project courses can be taken for one study project or several semesters. Participants can also add credit points and grades to the curriculum. In addition, the project counts toward the Environmental Knowledge certificate program and the Environmental Law certificate.

In total, the Graduate Center offers six project studies in the 2018/19 winter semester. Two of them are new additions:

"Social Sculpture: Acting Responsibly and Shaping Society Sustainably," Institute for Protestant Theology, Dr. Gudrun Spahn-Skrotzki.

"Solarcampus - Project Studies on Energy Efficiency," Prof. Dr. Klaus Vajen and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Anton Maas

"The university as an organizer: ecological, economical and fair", Department of Sustainable Management, Miriam Catheret and Kristina Kruber

"University, how sustainable are you really? Part III - Model Development for Establishing Student Participation in the Environment and Sustainability Field," Center for Environmental Systems Research, Nadine Chrubasik.

New offerings:

"Sustainability on the Table," Department of Economics with a focus on decentralized energy management, Dr.-Ing. Christina Grebe

"Do digital games have the potential to induce targeted behavioral changes?-A Case Study on Eating Habits," Department of Microsociology, Institute of Empirical Economic Research, Dr. Anja Köbrich Leōn and Dr. Janosch Schobin.
