Online voting for the best startup idea from Hessen's university landscape

For the fourth time, the best start-up ideas from all universities in Hesse are competing against each other in the "Hessen Ideas Competition". From now until September 25, everyone can vote online at www.hessen-ideen.de to decide which ideas will make it into the finals. The competition, under the patronage of Angela Dorn, Hessen's Minister for Science and the Arts, is intended to support start-ups from Hessen's universities. Three teams from the University of Kassel are competing.

25 ideas from 13 different universities are taking part in the 2019 "Hessen Ideas Competition". This year, three private, state-recognized universities have also responded to the call and nominated ideas for the competition. The range of ideas is correspondingly wide. The best three ideas will be awarded prize money totaling more than 10,000 euros. In addition, all finalists will receive non-material support in the form of exclusive networking events and financial support for trade fair visits.

The University of Kassel, which is coordinating the competition, has also entered three of its ideas, known from the UNIKAT start-up consultation, the UNIKAT ideas competition and the UNIKAT crowdfunding contest. The teams are TIERINDIR - an online magazine for young people -, Saatgutkonfetti - compostable confetti as a carrier for seeds of native plants - and the idea 3W "Wenn Bewegung Wissen schafft"- an idea that makes it possible to efficiently collect high-quality data about spaces and its users.

Until September 25, everyone has the opportunity to evaluate the ideas online. This vote will be taken into account alongside the verdict of a panel of experts and will decide who makes it into the final of Hessen Ideen. The best ten ideas will present on November 21, 2019in front of a jury of representatives from business and science, which will decide on the final placements. The winners will receive their awards on the evening of the jury meeting at the Museum für Kommunikation in Frankfurt. On January 15, 2020, the finalists will present to investors at the Pitch Club Frankfurt.

The competition is being held for the fourth time. The increased number of participating universities and nominated ideas makes it clear that the Hessian university landscape has a strong need for offers to promote ideas and start-up projects. The "Hessen Ideen" initiative, which includes a scholarship program in addition to the competition, has established a network of Hessen's universities. "Hessen Ideen" brings together Hessen's universities in a network and aims to strengthen entrepreneurial and scientific creativity, anchor the idea of start-ups in the universities and present Hessen as a high-performance location for science and business. Since the launch of "Hessen Ideen", cooperation between Hessen's universities in the area of start-up promotion has intensified considerably. In the Hessen Ideen university network, the start-up support services at Hessen's universities work together intensively to strengthen the offerings for start-ups in Hessen statewide and to establish Hessen Ideen as an essential part of Hessen's start-up ecosystem.
