Under the guidance of the departments of Environmental and Behavioral Economics (Prof. Dr. Astrid Dannenberg), Solar and Plant Engineering (Prof. Dr. Klaus Vajen) and Decentralized Energy Management (Prof. Dr. Heike Wetzel), students from the fields of Renewable Energies and Economics had initially prepared a detailed study on the energy and CO2 balance of the BALi, Gloria and Filmladen cinemas of Filmladen Kassel e.V. in the winter semester 2017/18. This work and other sustainability activities of Filmladen Kassel e.V. and BALi Kinos GmbH were rewarded with the award of the "Sustainable Cinema 2018" prize by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art.

Confirmed by this success, further technical analyses on energy consumption and the climate campaign took place in the BALi cinemas in the summer semester 2018. The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness among moviegoers for the climate neutrality goal of Filmladen Kassel e.V. and to enable moviegoers to contribute to this goal. A total of 938 people participated in the campaign, who together donated more than 3,000 euros. Most of the money will be used to invest in energy-saving lighting and insulation. The remaining amount will be donated to the climate protection organization "atmosfair" to offset emissions that cannot be directly avoided.
