Update of the document server KOBRA

For more than 10 years, the document server of the University of Kassel KOBRA (Kassel Online Library, Repository and Archive) has offered scientists of the university a platform to publish their scientific documents online and thus to make them worldwide findable, freely accessible and permanently addressable. Since this week, the document server presents itself completely renewed.

In addition to a modern layout and better mobile usability, the new KOBRA also brings numerous new features:

  • Login: As a university member, you no longer need to register separately. Your university account serves as the login.
  • Upload: You can upload your documents directly after login to a temporary area, from where we publish them - after formal verification - in the desired collection.
  • Licenses: The agreement to the license conditions is conveniently done directly online. For primary publications, you also have the option to assign differentiated licenses (CreativeCommons) for your documents.
  • DOIs: The classic URN (Uniform Resource Name) has been replaced by the DOI (Digital Object Identifier). So that you can incorporate this into the document before the final upload, the DOI is already assigned during the submission process and later registered by us.

In addition, there are numerous other innovations such as the social media functions, the list of new additions, the news section and much more.

The spectrum of publications on KOBRA should also continue to grow in order to reflect the publication culture of the University of Kassel in its entire professional breadth. Thus, we have added new publication types and would like to encourage all university members to publish, for example, conference contributions (posters, slide sets, lectures), teaching material, preprints or working papers in addition to the classic primary or secondary publications of dissertations, publication series, journal articles, books or book contributions. Questions like " Which publication type do I have to choose?" or " Who is allowed to publish on KOBRA?"  are answered in our FAQ.

KOBRA is operated as a service of the University Library. Your contact for questions about publishing in KOBRA is the KOBRA team in the Digital Library Services department. The team offers advice on your current publication project and is happy to answer your questions about academic publishing.

Write to us or visit the KOBRA consultation hour in the Campus Library: every 1st Tuesday of the month at 4 pm at the service desk. Current dates under KOBRA News.  We would be pleased to receive your praise, suggestions and proposals for improvement of the new website.
