Scientific conference on organic farming starting March 5 at the University of Kassel

At the conference, experts will discuss the sustainability opportunities offered by organic agriculture. They will be guided by the United Nations' sustainability goals. "Globally, nationally and also regionally, we are facing challenges that challenge our self-image, our problem-solving skills and our innovative strength," says Prof. Dr. Detlev Möller from the Department of Organic Agricultural Sciences at the University of Kassel. "The question now is what forward-looking contributions the rapidly and dynamically growing organic agriculture can make to achieving these sustainability goals. That's what we need to talk about."

Speakers will include Hesse's Environment Minister Priska Hinz. Minister of State Hinz will report on Wednesday, March 6 at 18:30 in her address on the topic of Hesse: Eco-model region Germany on what has already been achieved and the continuation of the action plan for the further development of organic agriculture from the perspective of the state of Hesse. Speakers will also include Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, Honorary President of the Club of Rome, Jan Plagge, President of Bioland and IFOAM EU, and Uwe Schneidewind, President of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy.

"We are particularly pleased to be able to offer many exciting plenary lectures and excursions in addition to the technical presentations, as well as a rich supporting program," says Möller. In addition to lectures, there will also be numerous workshops, he adds. The conference dinner on Thursday, March 7, 2019, will feature a regional organic menu, a performance by the theater group "Silent Dogs" and live music by the band "Music for the Kitchen."

The 15th Scientific Conference on Organic Agriculture is hosted by the University of Kassel, Department of Organic Agricultural Sciences (Witzenhausen), Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen (LLH) and Stiftung Ökologie & Landbau. The conference will take place at the Campus Center of the University of Kassel, Moritzstraße 18, in Kassel.
