Farmer

The University of Kassel is a young university with around 25,000 students. In addition to study places, it offers a wide range of vocational training opportunities in the administrative, library, IT and industrial-technical fields.

Training content

The job description of a farmer includes the following skills and knowledge:

• Working and caring for the soil; maintaining sustainable soil fertility; plant
• Crop production; rational and environmentally compatible management of crops
• Harvesting and utilizing plant products
• Farm animal husbandry; care of animals; rational, animal-friendly and environmentally compatible husbandry
• Farming technology; maintenance and repair of machinery
• Environmental protection and landscape conservation; rational use of energy and materials
• Techniques and organization of farm work, production and marketing

Requirements

• at least a secondary school leaving certificate should be available at the time of the start of training
• unrestricted driving license class T

• openness for new things and for dealing with people
• readiness for action
• decision-making ability

Duration of training

The training lasts 2 to 3 years, depending on previous school education.

Training location

The training takes place at the Hessian State Domain Frankenhausen in Grebenstein. It is part of the Department of Ecological Agricultural Sciences at the Witzenhausen site.

Vocational school

The vocational school is the Reichspräsident-Friedrich-Ebert-Schule in Fritzlar.
