The position is initially limited for 3 years to work on the INTERREG project Three C: "Creating and Sustaining Charcoal Value Chains to Promote a Circular Carbon Economy in NWE Europe" in accordance with § 2 para. 2 WissZeitVG. The research project will develop and investigate sustainable utilization strategies for residual biomass in Northwest Europe. The position is based in Witzenhausen. Tasks:

  • Chemical-physical characterization of plant and activated carbons as additives in fermentation processes
  • Conducting batch experiments on the effects of using biochar and activated carbon as additives in fermentation processes
  • Investigation of effects on biology and process dynamics in biogas plants as well as the nutrient effect of different fermentation residues based on greenhouse trials with agricultural crops
  • Independent cooperation with project partners in different European regions
  • Independent data evaluation and interpretation
  • Preparation of scientific publications in international journals
  • Presentation of results at scientific conferences
  • Integration of project content into existing and planned courses

 

Requirements:

  • Above-average academic degree (MSc or Diplom II) in agricultural sciences, environmental engineering or related fields
  • Proven ability to carry out independent scientific work, in particular in the implementation and evaluation of laboratory tests and greenhouse experiments with crops
  • Experience in dealing with extensive data sets - good knowledge of statistical methods of data evaluation
  • Open-mindedness and creativity with regard to cooperation in the overall project - Ability to work in a team
  • Very good command of written and spoken English
