A Learning Place for the Digital Age

Second part of the renovated campus library has opened

After a renovation phase of more than three years, the second building section of the campus library on Holländischer Platz is open for use today. Once again, the library visibly underlines its statement as a learning location for quiet and concentrated work on campus, with numerous new learning places in bright and generously designed rooms.

In addition to the expanded range of individual places, students will find the newly opened building "section C" and the existing groups of books who had to move there for the upcoming renovation of building "section A". These include the Linguistics and Literature Department (now in C/Level 1) as well as the Social Sciences and the Law and Economics Department in C/Level 0.

Corresponding to building "section B", which was opened in 2017, the two levels C/0 and C/1 also form an overall quiet area. In the new spatial concept, the walking areas remain largely separated from the learning areas visually and acoustically by long shelf axes. Those are located throughout at the bright window areas and have a view of the campus.

As in building part B fire protection, the building ventilation and the acoustic concept have been extensively modernized and adapted to the latest standards to ensure barrier-free access. The construction costs were financed by the HEUREKA program of the state of Hesse and implemented by the Landesbetrieb Bau und Liegenschaften Hessen (LBIH). The architectural office blocher partners, Stuttgart, has been commissioned to design the interior.

A date for the start of construction of the third and final renovation phase in building "Section A" has not yet been set. Until then, learning places will remain accessible here.

"We are very pleased with the completion of the second building section, for which we have been waiting for a long time. The newly gained quality of stay, the transparency and brightness in the building, but also the improved guidance system identify us as a modern learning location", comments the director of the library, Dr. Axel Halle.
