Teacher training: Fresh from the Reading Literacy Kitchen: Film, Script & Theater

Films, dramas, and screenplays offer a lot of potential for creative, cooperative, and differentiated competency tasks using digital tools, in addition to classic competency tasks such as listening comprehension. Have your learners take on the perspective of the characters in creative writing assignments, record critical podcasts about the film, write age-appropriate reviews in the form of podcasts or blogs, or make engaging explanatory films about the topic. Use portfolios or collaborative scrapbooks to individualize and collect the student work created. Learn how to apply valuable theoretical principles, such as the hero's journey of protagonists* and the dramaturgical structure of popular feature films, to your classroom for student-centered, literary-aesthetic analysis. Furthermore, you will be shown methods for training scenic and sound reading and, based on concrete theater and film projects from lower to upper grades, project ideas for shooting your own short films or performing short plays. The use of a full-length film and the corresponding script will first be demonstrated using the film "Fourmi" and then other teaching scenarios relating to the genres of film and theater will be presented.
