The ambassador of Colombia, Hans-Peter Knudsen Quevedo, is coming to the Latin America conference of the Hofgeismar Protestant Academy, as are Danuta Sacher (head of the Latin America department at Bread for the World) and human rights politician Tom Koenigs (Alliance 90/The Greens). The conference "Violence and Sustainable Conflict Solutions in Latin America" from Friday, January 11 to Sunday, January 13, aims to discuss development policy solutions for overcoming violence in Latin America with representatives from academia, politics, and church and civil society organizations. Using Mexico and Colombia as examples, in particular, the aim is to show the role played by state violence, the reactions of resistance movements and culture, and how they jeopardize sustainable development in accordance with the UN's standards (SDGs).

Ambassador Knudsen Quevedo, Danuta Sacher and Tom Koenigs will discuss the peace process in Colombia on Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Synodal Hall of the Evangelische Tagungsstätte. The panel discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Stefan Peters, director of the Instituto Colombo-Alemán para la Paz (CAPAZ) at the University of Giessen, which is also involved in the event, as is the University of Kassel with Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Burchardt, director of the Latin America Center CELA.
