Shall we meet? - Discover the Kassel University with the anniversary app

50 years - 50 meetings! That's the idea behind the anniversary app "Let's meet?" of the Kassel University. 50 tours open up new perspectives on the university campus and Kassel research to visitors. The small groups explore basements, marvel at the canteen kitchen or visit research sites. Where the visitor ends up is decided by chance.

The special feature: The app assigns participants to a meeting. 50 hosts open the doors of the university and show places, some of which are otherwise inaccessible. For example, how does the journey from simple foodstuff to finished dish proceed in a large kitchen where food is cooked for over 4,000 people every day? And what happens to the quantities of dirty dishes afterwards? Participants will find out during the "Mensa - Backstage" tour.

In the hydraulic engineering hall, impressive research takes place on technical fundamentals as well as practice-oriented issues relating to water systems. For example, flow processes and the transport of sediments are studied on scaled-down models of hydraulic engineering facilities. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Theobald presents the 1200 m² experimental hall at the meeting "Hydraulic engineering experiments, nature on a model scale".

Dirk Schnurr, energy efficiency manager of the Kassel University, leads his guests under the campus at Holländischer Platz. In endless corridors, aggregates and technical fixtures keep the university running. "I'm happy to provide a glimpse behind the scenes of university operations. Hardly anyone knows the technical effort required for successful and comfortable study. Perhaps this tour will strengthen knowledge of the complex building services and understanding of the responsible work of operating technology," emphasizes Schnurr, host of the meeting "In the basements of the university - a look behind the scenes."

Not only at the HoPla campus

The tours will take place at all campuses: The art college presents techniques of weaving, tufting and embroidery in the textile study workshop. In Witzenhausen, guests visit the teaching and learning garden and the tropical greenhouse. They can follow in the footsteps of Kassel writers on the "Literature City Kassel" tour. Host Prof. Dr. Nikola Roßbach says: "Kassel is a city of literature - but one that can still be discovered. The more than 40 signs with literary quotations from the project 'More than just GRIMMig - Literature in Kassel' offer one clue."

These are just a few of the possible encounters that guests at the university can look forward to.

After registration, the app assigns participants to a meeting. All collected data is deleted after the meetings are completed. Both app and meetings are free of charge. General hygiene and spacing rules apply at all meetings. A medical mouth-nose protection (OP or FFP2 mask) should be worn indoors.

The "Let's meet?" app is being presented as part of the anniversary celebrations. It is now available for download in the Appstore and Playstore. The first meetings will begin in September. In addition to the meetings, other anniversary events will take place digitally as well as in presence starting in September.
