Stefan Lechtenböhmer has been working on the energy transition for more than 30 years and is a leading expert on the sustainable transformation of the industrial system. Most recently, he was Head of the Department "Future Energy and Industrial Systems" at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy and Honorary Professor at Lund University (Sweden).

"I am very much looking forward to linking my experience even more closely with university research and teaching and, in intensive cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute, to contributing valuable impulses from many years of close cooperation with stakeholders from business, politics and civil society," he announced.

Born in Westphalia, he studied geography, economics and political science at the University of Münster and received his doctorate from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Flensburg in 2008.

According to him, what appeals most about the professorship in Kassel is the opportunity to help shape application- and solution-oriented sustainability research at the Kassel Institute for Sustainability.

The newly founded Kassel Institute for Sustainability researches and teaches in relation to the 17 Sustainability Goals of the United Nations. Eight of the up to 17 new professorships have now been filled. The holders of four so-called core professorships are also part of the Board of Directors. In addition to Lechtenböhmer, these are Prof. Dr. Andra-Ioana Horcea-Milcu,Prof. Dr. Andreas Fischer-Lescano and Prof. Dr. Andreas Braun.
