Participation: Ideas workshops

The content on this page was translated automatically.

With the format of idea workshops, we offer a participation format with which innovative solutions for the sustainable development of university operations and campus life are to be found in a participatory process from the development of ideas to the conception, planning and realization of measures.

Join our Sustain Groups for more sustainability at the University of Kassel. Come by and let's concretize the projects of the idea workshops together! You can find more information below.

The 1st "Sustainable University of Kassel" ideas workshop and two sustainability challenges took place on February 7 and 8, 2023

What happens when employees and students join forces with the goal of making the University of Kassel more sustainable? At the 1st Ideas Workshop and the two Sustainability Challenges "How can we establish drinking fountains at the University of Kassel?" and "How can events at the University of Kassel be organized more sustainably?" on February 7 and 8, 2023, we jointly developed 15 great project ideas. The ideas are now to be implemented in consultation with the departments.

We have summarized the results for you in a photo documentation, and of course we also provide you with the presentations and other materials. In addition, we have digitized the result templates. Of course, these templates are not yet final, but they can serve as a basis for further cooperation. Together we want to use them to further plan and develop the projects. We will keep you informed about the progress of the project here.

You would like to join a project? Just get in touch with us via the idea phone or by e-mail.

Get involved in the Sustain Groups!

We diligently collected ideas at the ideas workshops in February 2023. Come to our working group meetings and let's continue planning the projects from the ideas workshops together and successfully implement them!

Registration at: greenoffice@uni-kassel.de. The registration deadline is 3 days before the event. The meetings take place at our Green Office.

All working groups are open to interested employees and students from all areas of the university. Anyone who would like to get involved in the process is welcome to join us at any time. If you have a completely new idea that is burning under your nails, you can of course bring it along to our meetings.

The next Sustain Groups dates:

29.05.24, 14.00-16.00: Sustainable event organization

Our active network is working on various projects to establish sustainable event management at the University of Kassel (e.g. for conferences, workshops, meetings, cultural events). We have already published a checklist for sustainable catering. We are currently working on the creation of a guide for event organizers and the establishment of a lending service for event equipment. We cordially invite you to join us. Feel free to bring new ideas!

14.05.24, 14.00-15.30: Sustainability communication (awareness + participation + communication)

Many measures and activities that the university has undertaken in the direction of corporate sustainability development are still too little known and the flow of information and communication within the university must be improved. A sustainability communication concept currently being developed by the Sustain Group, which includes a virtual bulletin board (Sustain Board) and a campus tour (Sustain Tour), is intended to provide support for better communication and visualization of the measures. We cordially invite you to continue planning the measures with us.

Project ideas 2023

Check out the 15 project ideas we came up with at the 1st Ideas Workshop and the two challenges "Drinking Fountain" and "Sustainable Event Organization" 2023 here.

Ideas Workshop "Sustainable University Kassel

Project idea:

With the Sustain Board (virtual pinboard on the topic of sustainability) with various sections for information on new developments, interesting links, videos, etc., suggestions and ideas, templates for sharing, requests for support, collegial advice, and much more, an uncomplicated exchange opportunity on the topic of sustainability could be offered.

Here, all university members could get information and inspiration at any time, find or offer suggestions or contact persons and invite to exchange. The goal is to create an offer that is as low-threshold as possible, to pass on information from one's own area without much effort and to receive information from other areas.

Project idea:

First-year students should be able to take a Sustain Tour (guided tour of the campus on the topic of sustainability) at the University of Kassel directly during their introduction. The tour could also be included in the continuing education program for employees and/or virtually posted on the web (website, social media) for review or used as an actionbound for events such as the campus festival.

Project idea:

At the University of Kassel, more e-exams should be offered instead of classic paper exams. So far, this is only possible at HoPla via special premises. The project could be extended to the AVZ. This would save paper and storage capacity for old exams and thus valuable resources. E-exams also contribute to the further digitalization of teaching.

Project idea:

The offer of the refectories and cafés should be made even more sustainable: More organic, regional, fair, vegetarian, vegan as well as healthy offers should be created.

Project idea:

Initiation of an exchange between the operational technology / energy efficiency management of the University of Kassel and the startups from the Science Park on the topic of energy and resource conservation.

There is no project template for this yet.

Challenge "Sustainable Event Organization

Project idea:

At the University of Kassel, there is a network of employees and students on the topic of "sustainable event organization". The goal of the network is to anchor and advance the topic in the university in the long term and to bring together people with different perspectives. Suitable formats and materials are to be developed jointly.

Long-term knowledge retention can be achieved through a digital knowledge repository (Sharepoint), in which everything on the topic is collected (e.g. wiki, guidelines, code of conduct).

This knowledge can be transferred to the employees through training and onboarding.

Various central support services, in particular a guide for sustainable event organization, will be offered in the future. Everyone who organizes a sustainable event will receive the best possible support.

Project idea:

At the University of Kassel, a central rental system for event equipment with the most important basic materials will be created in the future. The service will be supplemented by an online platform (possibly with external offers/order request/room booking system). The lending service is open to all university members. Why? A more efficient use of resources is achieved.

Challenge "Drinking Fountain

Project idea:

Drinking water dispensers should be installed at easily accessible locations at the University of Kassel. A prototype could be installed in the Campus Center.

This would provide students in particular with a convenient drinking water filling point that would raise awareness of the benefits of tap water consumption in everyday student life and motivate people to make the switch.

Project idea:

The University of Kassel is to be recognized as a " Tap Water Friendly Organization" by a tip:tap. The aim is to act as a role model for employees and students, to raise awareness for tap water consumption and to save CO2 by not using bottled water. For this purpose, various criteria have to be fulfilled on the basis of a checklist.
