Saint Mary's University - Halifax - Kanada
Within the framework of this cooperation, students from all departments can study for one semester at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Canada, free of tuition fees. Courses can be taken at undergraduate level.
You apply until November 15 directly to the International Office of the University of Kassel.
Information about your stay
No official language certificate is required.
As part of your nomination, you must confirm that you have sufficient knowledge of English ("sufficient" in this case means: comparable to TOEFL iBT 80: band score not below 20 or IELTS 6.5: score not below 6.0)
You do not pay tuition fees at Saint Mary's University. However, a mandatory administration fee of approximately CAD$330 is payable.
Costs for travel to and from the university, accommodation, meals, books, insurance etc. are the responsibility of the student.
In addition, you will re-register regularly at the University of Kassel, as you will remain a registered student at your home university for the duration of the semester abroad.
The semesters at SMU are divided into Fall (September-December) and Winter (January-April).

Application and selection procedure
You are applying to the International Office of the University of Kassel for a tuition-free exchange place at Saint Mary's University. Please submit the application documents (see below) in person, by post or by email (one PDF with all documents to auslandsstudium[at]uni-kassel[dot]de) in full and on time. Only these applications can be considered in the selection process.
An independent commission decides on the allocation of study places. You will be informed of the decision by e-mail.
In the event of a positive decision by the selection committee, the selected applicants must confirm acceptance of the study place within a set deadline. The selected students will then be nominated at the partner university. They will check your documents and decide on the nomination. You will be notified by the university regarding admission and other required documents.
You apply directly to the International Office of the University of Kassel by November 15.

- Relevance of your stay in relation to your previous/further studies?
- Brief description of your study plans: Which courses would you like to take?
- Subject/language preparation for the stay
- Curriculum vitae (in English, informal)
- Transcript of records (If you are accepted, you will need a transcript of records with the title of the course/event in English, signed and stamped by your examination office. You can use the "Transcript of Records" template, which you can find in our download area).
