Lecture Series "Right-Wing Populism and Right-Wing Extremism in Europe

This winter semester, the University of Kassel is hosting an interdisciplinary lecture series dedicated to the topic of right-wing populism and right-wing extremism in various European countries. This is the third time that the successful lecture series has been held at the university in North Hesse.

At the latest with the elections to the European Parliament, the Europe-wide strengthening of right-wing populist to extreme right-wing movements and parties has become the focus of media attention. As a phenomenon, they can be observed in almost all European societies. But as far as the social environment and the ideological justifications and organizational forms of populism and extremism from the right or the strategies of prevention are concerned, there are considerable differences between the individual countries in Europe.

In thirteen events of a lecture series at the University of Kassel, representatives from different scientific disciplines and fields of practice will speak: from the historical sciences, educational sciences, political sciences, linguistics, psychology, social work and sociology. The lecture series begins on October 22, 2014 and will take place in Lecture Hall III (Diagonale 5) at the Holländischer Platz campus. It is supported by the University's Presidential Board, the General Students' Committee (AStA), and the Departments of Humanities, Humanities and Cultural Studies, and Social Sciences of the University of Kassel.

The lecture series has already been offered with great success in the past two winter semesters. The third part, which is now being held, is intended to provide a forum for discussing the commonalities and differences between the individual movements and parties. At the same time, concepts of prevention in schools and in social work as well as strategies of exit will be presented.

The series of events will take place every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Lecture Hall III (Diagonale 5). For further information, please visit
