New members appointed to the University Council of the University of Kassel

Dr. Annette Beller (57) has been with the medical technology company B. Braun Melsungen AG since 1995. Since 2011, the business administration graduate and tax expert has been a member of the Management Board of the North Hessian company and is responsible for Finance, Taxes and Controlling as well as Central Services.

Prof. Dr. Uwe Schneidewind (50) has been President and Chief Scientific Officer of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy gGmbH and Professor of Innovation Management and Sustainability at the University of Wuppertal since 2010. He was previously president of the University of Oldenburg. The climate and environmental expert is a member of numerous national and international commissions and expert groups, including the German Advisory Council on Global Change and the Club of Rome.

"I am very pleased that with Dr. Beller and Prof. Schneidewind we have gained two extremely competent personalities who, together with the other members of the University Council, will advise and accompany the Presidential Board and the University of Kassel. The special profile of both will be extremely valuable for our next ambitious goals in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists as well as knowledge transfer", says University President Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey.

Six members were confirmed in their function: the deputy chair Prof. Dr. Doris Lemmermöhle, former vice president of the University of Göttingen, Prof. Dr. Wilfried Müller, former rector of the University of Bremen, Prof. Dr. Marcus Hasselhorn, director of the German Institute for International Educational Research, Prof. Dr. Eva Barlösius from Leibnitz University Hannover, Peter Masuch, outgoing president of the Federal Social Court in Kassel as well as Prof. Wilfried Wang from Hoidn Wang Partner.

The tasks of the University Council are regulated by the Hessian Higher Education Act. According to this, it accompanies the university in its development, articulates the expectations existing in the professional world and promotes the use of scientific knowledge and artistic achievements. The University Council has a right of initiative on fundamental matters of the university and must approve development planning. It makes recommendations on course planning, evaluation procedures, target agreements, knowledge transfer, as well as on task-oriented and efficient administration and use of funds. It gives its opinion on the university's basic regulations, accountability reports, budget planning, the establishment and discontinuation of study programs, and the division of the university into departments. The university council consists of up to ten members from the fields of business, professional practice and science and the arts. The members are appointed by the HMWK and half are nominated by the university and half by the ministry.
