Dr. Daniel Hornuff Professor of Theory and Practice of Design

Prof. Hornuff studied theater studies, German studies, comparative literature, art studies and philosophy in Leipzig and Karlsruhe. His master's thesis was awarded the prize of the ZKM Fördergesellschaft. He wrote his dissertation, which was sponsored by the German National Academic Foundation, on politically engaged theater. After an academic collaboration at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Karlsruhe, he habilitated in 2013 with a paper on the cultural history of pregnancy. Subsequently, he represented the professorship for art studies and media theory at the HfG Karlsruhe until 2018.    

Prof. Hornuff's research focuses on cultural and design studies. For example, he is investigating current and future design interventions in the human body in a collaborative research project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. In addition, he focuses on the social function of political aesthetics - and is currently researching the design means used to organize the rise of new right-wing movements.
