Germany's best computer science master's thesis comes from Kassel

The prize was awarded for the thesis "Estimating Annotation Performances for Probabilistic Active Learning with Multiple Annotators". The topic is about more efficient cooperation between artificial intelligence (AI) and humans. The AI should better understand which questions humans can help it with in order to learn faster. 

Mr. Herde studied computer science in his master's degree and completed his thesis with Prof. Dr. Bern­hard Sick, head of the Intelligent Embedded Systems department. "I would like to thank the jury and the Gesellschaft für Informatik. I am very pleased and honored. Above all, of course, I would like to thank Prof. Bernhard Sick for supervising my thesis," said Mr. Herde in his award speech. Since the end of his studies, he has been working on his doctorate in the field of artificial intelligence. "We look forward to further outstanding scientific contributions from Mr. Herde," commented Prof. Sick.

The Faculty Association of Computer Science of the Federal Republic of Germany is the association of all university computer science departments. It represents common concerns of its members with regard to promoting cooperation in all scientific matters and coordinating education in computer science.
