Heat waves, floods, drought: the climate crisis affects us all. To avert or at least mitigate global warming and its consequences, fundamental economic, industrial and social changes are needed. Whether this far-reaching transformation succeeds also depends on how we talk about the crisis and the necessary changes. Against this background, on October 24, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Staatstheater Kassel, artists and researchers will discuss with citizens what kind of communication is needed and how the climate change can succeed.

The focus will be on the connection between art and science. What can the artistic interpretation of reality tell us about current images of the future? And what role does art play in this context? The panel will include theater director Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson, linguist Dr. Paul Rezske and geologist and meteorologist Dr. Merja Tölle (both from the University of Kassel). The audience is invited to participate in the discussion and contribute their own views and experiences.

Before the debate, already from 6:30 p.m. and afterwards, visitors can also playfully deal with the "end of human dominance" on Earth at several hands-on stations and engage in conversation with other guests. The stations were developed by students from the University of Kassel and the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.

The event is organized by Wissenschaft kontrovers in cooperation with UniKasselTransfer. Wissenschaft kontrovers is a discussion series of Wissenschaft im Dialog in the Science Year 2022 - Inquired! The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
