With three energy action days, the university sets a signal and promotes in autumn and winter playful, entertaining and informative not only for your goals, but calls on everyone to save energy themselves.

The public energy action days will take place on November 22, December 6 and January 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Campus Center on Holländischer Platz. A variety of interesting activities that encourage energy conservation are planned, in which not only university employees but also all citizens can participate.

With tea (on 22.11./24.1.) and non-alcoholic punch for St. Nicholas (6.12.), which is offered by the Studierendenwerk, all visitors can strengthen and warm up. Those who want to charge their cell phones or prepare a tasty smoothie can do so, of course: However, the power does not come from the socket, but must be generated on energy bikes pedaling themselves. The advantage: You get warm yourself. You could also break a sweat at the WarmUp/Mini Break of the University Sports Center: At 12 noon and 2 p.m., small spontaneous exercises led by the university sports team are designed to increase fitness.

At the Knit-in, people will make something warming themselves, because DIY is the order of the day: with the support of the major wool supplier Schachenmayr and under the expert guidance of knitting expert and influencer Caroline Prange from CarosFummeley, people will be able to implement their own knitting projects on site on November 22.
"As we are urged by the current situation to set the room temperature no higher than 19 degrees, it is great to get through the winter with warm socks and scarves," says President Prof. Dr. Ute Clement, who will also reach for the needles. "Do-it-yourself is creative and sustainable - and if something cozy comes out of it, all the better!"
Influencer Caro: "Knitting and crocheting are all the rage, especially among younger people like students. Even at Fashion Weeks, more and more knitwear designs are being shown. And with the instructions and yarns from Schachenmayr, which have been specially selected for these project days, everyone can create their own individual It-piece for free. Just come by and let yourself be surprised." By the way, prior knowledge is not necessary, needles and wool are provided free of charge - while supplies last.

We all leave our personal ecological footprint, depending on what products we buy, how we use resources or what means of transport we use. The University of Kassel's sustainability office, the Green Office, is offering a trail where everyone can find out how big their personal ecological footprint is. At its booth, the Green Office will also provide energy-saving tips and information about the project CO2-optimized-campus.

The Veli research project will be presenting itself with a modular kitchen: Veli uses a household's electricity and water consumption to identify irregularities and dangerous situations in everyday life and make life more economical and safer. On January 24, Svenja Quitsch will represent the Kassel regional group of Scientists for Future (S4F) from 2:30 p.m. and will invite participants to become "participants" with a bar camp on the topic of energy, actively contributing their ideas, experiences, and competencies.

Also on January 24, SoLocal Energy will be on site at the Campus Center. The collective for solidarity-based citizen energy and neighborhood-based climate change projects connects people in Kassel and northern Hesse to purchase and install balcony power plants on a large scale and in solidarity. The goal is to form far-reaching energy communities. SoLocal Energy provides information about the project and advice on installing balcony power plants.

University Chancellor Oliver Fromm welcomes the action days: "We all have to stick together and save energy together. As a sustainability university, we are on the right track. The Energy Action Days show the creativity behind it - and that sustainable use of resources can also be fun."
