DHM Ultimate Frisbee - WG Würzburg beats the defending champion

The WG Würzburg team beat the defending champions WG Munich 12:5 in an exciting final to win the title of German University Champion 2023. The bronze medal went to the team from the University of Bayreuth. They won a close game against WG Gießen 9:7. In addition to the four teams mentioned above, the teams from Erlangen-Nuremberg, Heidelberg, Dresden and Marburg, as well as next year's host, also qualified for the DHM 2024.

The Himmelstürmer*innen team from Kassel conceded defeat as friendly hosts. After the games on the first day of the tournament (against Erlangen-Nürnberg 4:8, Heidelberg 3:13, Marburg 1:12 and Bayreuth 1:12), there was no chance for a podium place on Sunday. But even the defeats did not silence the host team and so they shouted full of motivation on Sunday "This is madness! Why are you sending me to heaven? Strikers, strikers, strikers*!"

Not only on the field, but also for the spectators on the sidelines, one thing is especially noticeable: the "Spirit of the Game". Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport without referees. Therefore, the players themselves are responsible for the observance of the rules and fairness. After each game there is another exchange in a common spirit circle - compliments as well as constructive criticism can be expressed.

Tobias Heyer - head of Kassel University Sports - was also impressed by the spirit that characterizes the sport and awarded the TU Dresden team the title "Spirit Sieger 2023".

At the final award ceremony, Ralf Simon also praised the sponsor Eurodisc for the great discs and medals. The company produces recyclable discs sustainably in Germany.
