Public lecture series on gender and sustainability

Gender researchers from various disciplines address questions about the relationship between sustainability and gender. Gender research has drawn attention to the fact that sustainable socio-ecological and socio-economic transformations cannot be thought of without determining gender relations and the regulation of care, work and production methods. In recent decades, feminist gender research has pointed out and analyzed the simultaneous exploitation of nature and gender and countries of the Global South. The lecture series uses various specialist perspectives to look at the connection between sustainability debates and the gender constructions and gender relations embedded in them. Topics covered include ecofeminism and environmental justice as well as struggles for collective property.

The topic of the first event in the series on April 30 is "Gender in sustainability regulation", presented by Prof. Dr. Isabell Hensel. Prior to this, Vice President Prof. Dr. Sonja Buckel will introduce the series of events with a welcoming address. A lecture followed by a panel discussion on the topic "Right to say no - Feminist struggles for development" is planned for the last date (July 9).

The lecture series is organized by the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Kassel under the direction of Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Tuider. For questions or to register, please contact geschlechterforschung[at]uni-kassel[dot]de.
