Gender equality policy of the University of Kassel presented at conference in India

Women in India are integrated into the labor market to a comparatively small extent, but they perform a large part of the care tasks. Renowned Indian academics presented analyses of discrimination against women through precarious forms of employment and income without social standards, but also strategies to improve women's living conditions.

Under the title "Gender Equality in German Higher Education: Analyses and Strategies to increase Women's Participation," Dr. Sylke Ernst, the Women's and Equal Opportunity Officer of the University of Kassel, presented the equal opportunity policy of the North Hessian university against the background of national equal opportunity initiatives in higher education. "In conversations on the sidelines of the conference, I was also able to get an idea of the conditions of women at the university. I was impressed to hear that the university's Equal Opportunity Committee is incentivizing honors research by female scholars and has established a gender-neutral dormitory," Ernst said.

The conference was organized by Dr. Nandita Mondal, School of Management and Labor Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in cooperation with the International Center for Development and Decent Work (ICDD). The ICDD is an interdisciplinary and international scientific network on global sustainability development and is coordinated by the University of Kassel under the direction of Prof. Dr. Christoph Scherrer.
