Conference of University Rectors calls for participation in the European elections

HRK President Prof. Dr. Peter-André Alt launched the initiative entitled: "Study without borders. Choose Europe!" yesterday (March 12) at the HRK Senate in Berlin. "Europe is not a foregone conclusion," he explained to the press today. "We want to make it clear how important this election can become for the future of the individual. Everyone should ask himself or herself what kind of Europe he or she wants to live in in the future and then cast his or her vote. It has become very clear in the HRK Senate that universities are deeply concerned about the growing influence of populist and nationalist forces in Europe. Our hope is that students will actively oppose this trend in the election."

Prof. Dr. Rolf-Dieter Postlep, President of the German Student Union, which supports the appeal , said, "Students are an important voice against anti-science and populism in Europe. They would do well to take this EU election very seriously and stand up for a Europe of exchange and reason." He added that student unions are also committed to cosmopolitanism and tolerance."
