Self-employment: Freelance editing

In addition to employment, self-employment is also an option for humanities graduates. For someone whose heart beats for language, working with texts is a good option, for example in freelance editing.

The core task of freelance editors is to ensure the quality of a text. With a very good feeling for language and a comprehensive knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation, editors check and optimize their clients' texts and publications. They also revise texts in terms of stylistic, visual and argumentative design.

Anna Lina Dux, who has been working as a freelance editor since 2014, will tell you what you should bear in mind when becoming self-employed and what knowledge and skills you need to be successful as a freelance editor. She has a master's degree in German language and literature, philosophy and political science and worked for several years as a research assistant and teacher for special tasks at the University of Kassel.
