Contributing

Dr. Ron-Hendrik Hechelmann

Department of environmentally compatible products and processes (upp)/
FB 15: Mechanical Engineering

In my research, I develop climate neutrality strategies for companies. With my research, I help to achieve the 1.5° target, which aims to limit the global temperature increase due to the greenhouse effect.

Florian Gerland

Research associate in the department of fluid mechanics/
FB 15: Mechanical Engineering

I am investigating how concretes with a high fiber content could be produced in the future. To this end, I am investigating the influence of the fibers on the flow behavior of fresh concrete and how the hair-fine steel fibers orient themselves during casting. The research results can help reduce the amount of concrete required for structures. This is important because cement production generates enormous CO2 emissions.

Dr. Daniel Koch

Institute for German Studies/
FB 2: Humanities and Cultural Studies

Using the example of hero concepts, I have investigated the interactions between a specific use of language and our social reality. For on the one hand, cultural change is reflected in our language. On the other hand, this change is driven by the way we speak.

Alexandra Fachinger

Science Bridge e.V.

During my PhD, I am trying to investigate regulatory mechanisms that play a role in hereditary degenerative diseases of the retina. I am also involved in science communication at Science Bridge and try to bring science closer to the audience in an entertaining way by giving talks at the Science Cafes.

Dr. Nina Felgen

CoLab e.V.

As a scientist, I work with diamond coatings as a material platform. As the managing director of the scientific center CINSaT, I bring together different disciplines to conduct joint research on interdisciplinary nano topics. At CoLab e.V. I am committed to science communication and low-threshold access to science and research.

Dr. Sascha Vogel

Moderator

Dr. Sascha Vogel is the founder of sciencebirds. His background is in theoretical physics, where he earned his doctorate at the University of Frankfurt and subsequently conducted research abroad. After several stops in graduate education, he now spends all his time in science communication. He tours the world's stages with Physics in Hollywood and Quantum Mechanics and gives courses for young scientists.

Marie Ossenkopf

Department of Distributed Systems/
FB 16: Electrical Engineering/Computer Science

I am concerned with how artificial intelligence can learn,
not only to use language, but also to understand it. For this I let
I let simulated agents develop their own language in order to solve the
to solve tasks given to them.

Thomas Schomberg

Research Assistant in the Department of Fluid Mechanics/
FB 15: Mechanical Engineering

In my research I am working on turbulence retardation using smart actuators based on electrorheological fluids. Electrorheological fluids are fluids that massively change their flow properties under the influence of an electric field. The actuators could be used in the future to significantly reduce the fuel consumption of aircraft.

Florian Knauer

Department of Marketing/
FB 7: Economics

As a research assistant at the Department of Marketing and the Blockchain-Center.eu, I am investigating the buying behavior of consumers on the Internet. The focus is on researching emotional trust in online transactions as a function of the technology used as well as the derivation of suitable communication strategies.

Dipl. Phys. Tillmann Kalas

Department of Experimental Physics 3/
FB 10: Mathematics and Natural Sciences

As scientific director I work in a large research network, the Collaborative Research Center 1319 ELCH. The scientists in the network analyze and control single mirror-image molecules with the aid of extreme light.

Özge Efendi

CoLab e.V.

I am the co-founder and chairwoman of CoLab - Das Community Labor e.V.. With our lab we want to offer a low-threshold access to science for all citizens and we are developing many new science communication formats.
I am also doing my PhD at the University of Marburg, where I am researching the biogenesis of iron-sulfur clusters in the Department of Medicine.

About Science Night

Young scientists from the University of Kassel present their research projects in various formats. Whether a short lecture, video or science quiz - the format is chosen by the young scientists themselves. The topics are as diverse as the researchers and the Science Night offers the opportunity to talk to the young scientists. In addition, initiatives in the region that make science accessible and offer exciting insights are presented.

As the final event, Science Night offers Communication School participants the opportunity to try out new formats and present their own research to the public.

About the Communication School

The Communication School is a further qualification program of the Graduate Academy on the topic of science communication. Within one week, the participants get to know different areas and choose three focal points of communication from nine workshops. The Communication School supports the young scientists in becoming communicators themselves in order to promote public trust in science and to report first-hand on current research.

The further qualification program is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art as part of the study structure program.
