Democracy Week
What is it all about?
As self-evident as democracy may seem today, it is not. Democracy is historically young in Germany. It is fragile, contested and has opponents all over the world; it must be understood, practiced and brought forth - especially in education and at university.
The core study program therefore aims to make democracy the explicit subject of discussion for one week. For one week, courses will be opened up to the topic of democracy. For one week, students, lecturers and employees of the University will engage in discussions across status groups: about education and democracy, about school as an institution of democracy education, about (forgotten) thinkers, social realities and theories of democracy, about the threats to which it is exposed, its blind spots and much more.
In addition to the regular teaching activities, a supporting program creates a variety of opportunities for discussions: in a meeting café, during workshops, readings, performances and panel discussions.
