Unitag 2013: Prizes for Chisha Chakanga and Dennis Hol-zinger

27-year-old Chisha Chakanga received the honor from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for her outstanding achievements as a foreign student. The Zambian-born student is enrolled in the Global Political Economy program and is among the top five percent of international students in Kassel's master's programs. In addition to her studies, Chakanga works as a study-and-work scholar at the university's International Center for Development and Decent Work (ICDD).

The prize of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) went to Dennis Holzinger. He received the coveted award for his outstanding diploma thesis in the field of nanostructure science, topic: Near-surface transport of magnetic particles via domain wall motion for mixing chemical agents. He has studied at the University of Kassel since 2006, including the additional subjects of laser applications in the natural sciences and polymers and liquid crystals from 2008. Since graduating in 2011, the 26-year-old has been working as a research assistant at the Institute of Physics at the University of Kassel.

The University Day was also an occasion to present the events of the university year as well as the ongoing development of the university. "For the University of Kassel, 2013 is an eventful year. This is because we have more students than ever before, are recording significant successes in research, have been honored as a founding university and are experiencing momentum in new construction almost like in the founding years," said University President Prof. Dr. Rolf-Dieter Postlep. In keeping with the expansion of the university and its urban integration, Prof. Wolfgang Schulze gave a keynote speech on "Architectural Visions of Urban Development - Kassel as Reflected by the experimenta urbana" during the ceremony.
