Materials engineering: Success for the University of Kassel in additive manufacturing

In a 74-page manuscript, the authors provide an overview of the damage tolerance and structural integrity of additively manufactured, metallic components under cyclic loading, thus summarizing the current state of research in this exciting topic area.

The idea for the publication originated during a workshop jointly organized by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM, Germany) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, USA) in May 2019. Subsequently, the idea was spearheaded by colleagues at BAM with the assistance of workshop participants and about 2 years later, the successful publication of the publication can now be announced. The participants of the workshop and thus the authors of the publication are, in addition to Professor Niendorf, the head of the Department of Metallic Materials at the Institute of Materials Engineering at the University of Kassel, many world-renowned colleagues in the field of additive manufacturing.
