Nora Platiel Prize for Master's Theses in Social Law and Social Policy

The prize, named after Nora Platiel, is intended to recognize outstanding master's theses in the fields of social law and social policy that have been written at the University of Kassel, Fulda University of Applied Sciences, and the Hochschule der Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung in Bad Hersfeld, and that demonstrate both academic quality and social relevance to a particular degree and combine both.

Thematically relevant master's theses can be proposed that have been written in degree programs at the University of Kassel, the University of Applied Sciences Fulda and the Hochschule der Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung in Bad Hersfeld, and that have been evaluated with a grade of at least 2.0 in the summer semester 2020 or in the winter semester 2020/2021 (including oral examination).

The committed jurist and social democrat Nora-Platiel (1896 - 1979) had returned to Germany in 1949 after exile in Paris and Zurich and had settled in Kassel. She worked there at the Regional Court and the Higher Regional Court and became Kassel's first Regional Court Director. From 1954 to 1966 she was a member of the state parliament for the SPD, for several years as deputy chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group. There she earned the reputation of being "the best speaker in parliament.

The prize money is 2,000 euros. The prize is divisible. All professors and academic staff at the University of Kassel and the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda and the University of Statutory Accident Insurance in Bad Hersfeld who are involved in the Social Law and Social Policy Research Association are eligible to submit proposals, as are all
members of the association.

To be submitted initially by June 30, 2021, a three-page summary of the master's thesis, the expert opinions, and a curriculum vitae (in German or English, all documents in a single PDF document).
