Kassel Dokfest - Honorary Award goes to Graduate School for Moving Image

Since 2015, the Kassel Dokfest has awarded the Honorary Prize for particularly innovative achievements in film, art and education. The prize is aimed at film and cultural professionals who come from the region or are associated with the Dokfest in a special way. The prize money of 3,000 euros, donated by Hübner GmbH & Co. KG, is intended to enable excursions as well as presentations of the work of the participants:inside the graduate school.

"The Dokfest is an established and wonderful cultural event in Kassel and I am happy that the Graduate School Moving Image was so successful here!" commented the President of the University, Kassel, Prof. Dr. Ute Clement (the Kunsthochschule is a semi-autonomous division of the University).

About the GBB
The Graduate School of Moving Image was established in 2020 as a pilot project to further develop the third phase (i.e. postgraduate, after an MA, Magister or equivalent artistic degree) at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. This is intended to establish long-term access to postgraduate qualifications, similar to doctorates based at universities. The study structure program of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art supported the GBB with start-up funding.

The model of the graduate school is successful and forward-looking. The GBB formulates a hitherto unique possibility, both nationally and internationally, for a two-year postgraduate qualification at a university of the arts. It defines a programmatically comprehensive understanding of the moving image and spans its field between games, animation, video, new media and film. The program is supported by an interdisciplinary teaching program from the fields of visual communication, fine arts and the study workshops of the art academy.

In the past two and a half years, the GBB - together with local cooperation partners - has promoted the public discourse on the artistic moving image in Kassel. The honorary award is intended to honor the model character of the graduate school and thus support this unique institution in Kassel.
