Digital Italy Day

Venice - a myth in history, art and literature

Images, myths and imaginations of Venice have shaped discourses in history, art and literature for centuries. Venice still lives on its former importance. The fear of Venice's slow sinking into the sea has stimulated dialogue around the preservation and protection of cultural heritage.
The seventh Italy Day at the University of Kassel therefore revolves around the myth of Venice from the Middle Ages to the present day. It is about the city's rise to a medieval metropolis, Andrea Palladio's difficult relationship with the Serenissima, the patricianism of the aristocratic city, Venetianism in the Mediterranean, and mass tourism as a polarizing discourse.

All those interested are cordially invited to the lectures from the history of art and architecture, history and literature.
