FUSION less: A plea for less | less:More and More | Prof. Dr. Gabu Heindl

FUSION WiSe 2022/23
less:

The climate, biodiversity and energy crises are forcing us to radically question current building practices. Fusion Conversations 2022/23 introduces actors who are using unconventional concepts and ideas to advocate for a true building and mobility turnaround, other forms of city and landscape, and contemporary teaching. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the ASL department, Fusion continues the long tradition of progressive ecological positions of the University of Kassel and updates them for the present. less: is a plea for less: less cars, less demolition, less concrete, less CO2, less environmental destruction, less sealing, less exploitation, less capitalism. The role of urban and architectural professionals will change dramatically in the coming years. To ensure adequate education, we need more courage for experiments, interdisciplinary teaching concepts and a de-hierarchization of structures. The Fusion Talks want to unfold a utopian potential and give courage to change things ourselves.

Dr. Gabu Heindl took over as head of the Department of Construction Economics and Project Development | "Architecture City Economics" in the winter semester 2022/23. She studied architecture in Vienna, Tokyo and at Princeton University and completed a PhD in philosophy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. From 2018 to 2021, she was a Visiting Professor at Sheffield University with a research focus on Urban Commons and subsequently Professor of Urban Design at TH Nuremberg. Since 2019 she is Unit Master at the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA), London.
Gabu Heindl works in practice and theory on non-profit, collective housing, project development and financing models. In Kassel, she will bring her academic as well as practical experience as an architect and urban planner to research socio-ecological shifts in perspective in (re)construction and project development, towards non-profit housing and urban development.
