Cycling is one of the most important modes of transport of the future. "Cycling combines personal and societal benefits for future-proof and sustainable mobility in cities and rural areas," states Prof. Dr. Carsten Sommer, Head of the Department of Transport Planning and Systems at the University of Kassel.

Many municipalities in Germany have already achieved initial success in promoting cycling in recent decades. However, it is still necessary to close the gaps between science, users and urban and transport planning. Experts from science, academia and practice will discuss current challenges and possible solutions in the promotion of cycling in the new webinar series "Roadshow Radverkehr".

To kick things off, on June 3, 2020, UN World Cycling Day, from 11:30-12:30, the University of Kassel and the universities of Karlsruhe, RheinMain, Ostfalia and Frankfurt will start with the topic "Studying cycling - a study that makes an impact." The transport experts from the participating universities will explore the question of what competencies in the areas of structural infrastructure, human factors and digitalization graduates need to possess in order to be able to effectively promote cycling in professional practice.

The webinar is aimed at prospective students and students in the field of mobility and transport, urban planners, transport planners and engineers from municipalities, planning offices and specialized administrations, as well as interested members of the public. The event is free of charge and can be accessed via the website(https://vc2.sonia.de/b/chr-2mv-9gu).

The series of events is being held in the context of the Endowed Chair of Cycling, which the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has been funding at seven universities since this year. In addition to the University of Kassel, these include Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Bergische Universität Wuppertal, RheinMain University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences Wolfenbüttel, Wildau University of Applied Sciences and Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.

Notice:

For technical reasons, the number of participants for the webinar is limited. If participation is not possible due to capacity reasons, we apologize. A recording of the webinar will be available on this homepage 24h after the event.
