Sustainability mission statement

Environmental impacts caused by the operation of the "University of Kassel" are to be reduced and avoided in new investments, as far as this is economically and socially justifiable. Suitable research foci and courses of study are to be strengthened and environmental knowledge, knowledge about sustainable management and fair coexistence are to be generated and disseminated. Both objectives are to be combined in order to gain indications for the improvement of the ecological, economic and social sustainability of the operation "University of Kassel", above all from research and research-related teaching.

The performance of the University of Kassel is to be secured in research and teaching, knowledge transfer and scientific qualification in the long term. Furthermore, goals are to be developed in line with the needs of society and the region and their fulfillment is to be guaranteed financially. It is also a matter of forming the right focal points in competition with other universities, training and appointing the appropriate personnel and thus being successful in academic competition. Relevant research and teaching should also support this goal.

The goal is to develop the University of Kassel as a social entity in the long term in such a way as to enable compatible, low-conflict interaction in research, teaching and administration that is beneficial to all. The University of Kassel sees itself as an open, family-friendly, inclusive, intercultural, gender-appropriate and health-promoting university. It understands the diversity of its members as a productive resource, prevents discrimination based on personal and social characteristics, and strives to create a motivating working environment for employees and students. Research and teaching that promote this are also tasks of a sustainable university.
