Application with a German certificate

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits (ECTS) in Nanoscience or a related degree.
  • Fundamental knowledge in physics, chemistry and biology.
  • Advanced knowledge including practical skills in at least two of the disciplines: biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • English language skills on the level B2 according to the European Framework (CEFR).
Please note that the missing courses from the bachelor's degree in Nanoscience at Kassel University which may be imposed as additional requirements, are offered in German language only. Therefore, it is useful to have a basic command of the language.
  • • The examination committee may demand a hearing for assessing the fulfilment of the admission requirements and/or stipulate additional requirements in total of up to 30 credits..

Can I apply with a science or engineering degree?

Please note that admission requires advanced knowledge in two natural sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and at least fundamental knowledge in the third one on tertiary education level. If you studied the single subjects Physics, Chemistry, or Biology, you will need evidence for additional courses taken in the respective other subjects. If you hold a Bachelor degree in Nanoscience, General Science, or other interdisciplinary subjects related to Physics, Chemistry, or Biology, you may meet the admission requirements more easily.

If you hold an engineering degree, it will be more difficult to fulfill the requirements. For example, if you have a degree in Electrical Engineering without two natural sciences, you will be not eligible for the programme. In this case, we refer to other study programmes offered at the University of Kassel.

Which documents do I need for the application?

    1. Copy of your university entrance qualification certificate
    2. Officially certified copy of your first professional university degree (certificate: e.g. Bachelor's degree, Diplom I, state examination). If you do not have a Bachelor's degree certificate at the time of application, please submit the following evidence:
      1. Preliminary overview of subjects and grades of your previous studies and
      2. the certificate on the status in your studies, completed and signed by your current examination office: Bescheinigung zum Stand im Studium.
At the time of application, at least 80% of the credits required for graduation must have already been earned and passed. This equates to 144 out of 180 or 168 out of 210 credits. In addition, proof of admission to the Bachelor's thesis (indicating the date of submission) must be available.
    3. Further proof specified in the examination regulations (see above).

    • I click on the menu item "My studies" and then on "Study application".

    Fill out the application

I can then find more detailed information in the application overview in eCampus. (Be sure to activate the e-mail notification and log in to the application portal regularly).

    Procedure:

    1. Your application will first be formally checked: Have all documents been uploaded? Are the formal requirements met?
    2. Once the formal check has been completed, the application is forwarded to the examination board for your degree program.
    3. In the next step, the examination board checks whether the content-related requirements for admission are also met and decides on the subject-related equivalence, the recognition of previously completed work and decides whether the application is admissible or should be rejected. In the case of admissibility, content-related conditions may also be imposed.
    4. The examination board digitally reports the result back to the master's office.
    5. If it is discovered during the procedure that documents are missing, I will be notified of this by e-mail. I can view information on any missing documents in the eCampus application portal. The deadline for submission is also stored there.
    6. Depending on the Master's program, it can take up to six weeks until you receive the results. Please refrain from making inquiries during this time.
  6. 6.Decision

    • Subsequently, I receive either an admission or rejection.

    • In the case of admissibility, the application status and application subject status of my application will be set to "Offer of admission has been made" and I can enroll online.

    • In case of rejection, the application status and application subject status of my application will be set to "Excluded". My application will therefore not participate in the selection process. I can find the exact reasons for rejection in the rejection notice, which I can access in eCampus. I will save the rejection notice.

The notices are not sent by mail.
