The bachelor's degree program in social work is professionally oriented and teaches competencies that allow students to enter and pursue a career in social work and social pedagogy. The program is interdisciplinary in nature. In addition to an introduction to the history, theories, concepts, methods and ethical foundations of social work, students are taught the fundamentals of educational science, sociology, psychology, political science and law. Students are thus enabled to establish the connection between scientific knowledge and professional practice and to develop reflexive and socially critical solutions to problems in the fields of action of social work. Depending on the student's interests, the areas of education, upbringing, therapy, rehabilitation and social assistance can be studied in greater depth. An important career orientation is provided by a practical phase that is linked to and reflected upon during the course of study (practical vocational studies). Half of the internship period can be designed as teaching research. Further practical periods required for state recognition as a social worker in Hesse are completed postgradually, i.e. after the bachelor's degree.
