Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 to draw attention to the importance of protecting the Earth. Earth Day was brought forward to April 21, 2024 in the Bettenhausen district of Kassel. On this day, organizations, institutions and associations informed visitors about ecological, social, political and cultural topics. Earth Day Kassel is organized by Umwelthaus Kassel e.V. and volunteers, Projektschmiede Keller & Gruber and with the support of the city of Kassel.

As environmental associations, initiatives, cultural groups and providers of ecological services and products provided information about their activities and offers at numerous stands during the "Earth Day" environmental festival, the Green Office used this day to promote the Card of Tomorrow (sustainability card) for Kassel. The Green Office was kindly allowed to use the stand of Fair Trade Town Kassel.

Since April 21, 2024, the city of Kassel has been allowed to bear the official title "Fairtrade Town". It received the corresponding certification on Earth Day, which was presented to Kassel's Lord Mayor Sven Schoeller by the Honorary Ambassador of Fairtrade Deutschland e.V. The Scientists for Future also received the Kassel Climate Protection Award from the city of Kassel.

Sustainability initiatives that want to be shown on the map of tomorrow should question and demonstrate their potential for sustainable change:

(a) how innovative and profound are our approaches and practices? 

b) is sustainability integrated into our approach and do we think in terms of global responsibility? 

c) do we initiate change ? - either through  social debates and learning processes or by creating structures to change practices.
