Environmental Chronicle

Since its founding, the University of Kassel has focused on disciplines related to society and the environment. As early as 1975, Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker gave the university a sustainability profile, when this term was not even in use. Even 50 years later, the University of Kassel benefits from its interdisciplinary orientation, strong networking and interdisciplinary projects.

The focus of environmental research and teaching has always been on future issues such as climate protection, resource conservation and species protection, as well as the necessary transformation of societies in all parts of the world to meet the challenges of the future.

This transformative orientation has helped the university to develop and establish further innovative structures and facilities in the environmental field over the years, giving it a distinctive profile in the field of environment-related education and research.

This evolution continues today, with the establishment of a Scientific Center for Sustainable Transformations and the creation of a Green Office for operational sustainability and campus development adding to the timeline for 2021/2022.
