After studies of geo-ecology at Technical University of Braunschweig he did his PhD studies at faculty of electro technology/computer science, chair environmental system technology at the University of Kassel. In 2009 he habilitated in environmental system technology/ environmental system analysis at University of Kassel and is leading GRID-Land Group since then. His research focuses are ecology, geo-computer science/ geo-information systems and landscape ecology.
