Subjects and subject combinations

On the following pages you will find information about the individual teaching subjects that are available for you to choose from in the degree programs. You will learn something about the goals of the studies in this subject and tips about the subject.

• Please note that in all teacher training programs the core studies in education and social sciences are compulsory.
• In addition, the subjects German and mathematics are compulsory in the teaching profession at elementary schools ; you can choose the third subject. 
• In the teacher training program at Hauptschulen and Realschulen as well as in the teacher training program at Gymnasien, you select at least two teaching subjects.
• In the vocational education program, you choose between electrical engineering and metal technology. This is combined with a second school subject.
• In the study program Business Education you also choose a second subject. 

• In principle, almost all subjects can be combined with each other.
• Acombination of art and music for the teaching profession at grammar schools is excluded. There are special regulations for combinations of one of these subjects with another subject.

In addition, the subject combinations differ in terms of studyability with regard to time overlaps of the courses offered. The following table provides an overview of the combinations, whereby combinations that do not over lap in principle are marked with a +.

With all other combinations, considerable overlaps are to be expected, which makes individual planning of the studies necessary and, in extreme cases, can also lead to an extension of the study time. However, the combinations can still be selected.
