Automatic backup under Windows

1. Please open the backup client.
2. In the top bar under "Edit" you will find the item "Client defaults", which starts the profile editor.
3. Click on "Authorization" and select "Generate password" under "Password access". This means that the password no longer needs to be entered and the scheduler (automatic backup), which runs in the background, no longer has any problems with it.
4. Click on "Apply" at the bottom right and then on "Ok" in the window that opens.
5. Now switch to the "Scheduler" item in the left-hand bar. The name of the file in which the automatic backup is logged is in the middle under "Scheduling log". Below this, select "Clean up old entries" and select the number of days (e.g. 7). This ensures that the file is not infinitely large and therefore no longer readable by a standard editor.
6. Click on "Ok" to end the process and close the profile editor.

You would like your computer to be backed up automatically at a specific time (scheduling).

In your usage request, the backup administrator has given you a time at which this automatic backup will take place. You still need to set up the corresponding service on your computer.

1. Call up the backup client.
2. At the top of the menu bar you will find the Utilities item. Call up the Setup Wizard from there.
3. You will be asked which components you want to configure. The TSM client is already selected. You have already configured it, so uncheck the box by clicking on it. To do this, select the TSM client scheduler. Then click on Install new or additional scheduler, then on Next.
4. You must now enter a name for the scheduler, e.g. "Central Scheduler", "Automatic Backup" or similar. The name "TSM Client Scheduler" is already predefined and a good choice.
5. Now enter the name of the option file.
6. Your option file dsm.opt is already suggested here.
7. Next, the node name and password are requested.
8. You will now be taken to the service login options. The account is the system account. Click on Automatically when Windows boots so that the scheduler service is always started when the computer is switched on.
9. Finally, you must specify the Client Schedule Logfile to be used. The suggestion dsmsched.log given here refers to the file dsmsched.log in your installation directory. The automatic backup is logged in this file. You can check here whether everything went well. The same applies to the error log file dsmerror.log.
10. Confirm with yes that you want to start the server.
11. After confirming and applying, the scheduler should be started. Click on Finish.

If the Scheduler service is running, but you have changed or want to change something in the options of your backup (e.g. other include/exclude options), you must stop the service and restart it after the change.

Restart the service:

Click on the Windows Start button, then on Settings, on Control Panel, on Administrative Tools, then on Services. All services are now listed. Select your service and mark it by clicking on it.
Now click on Stop in the bar at the top left under Process. The service will then be terminated. Do the same to start the service.

You can also call up the Setup Wizard in the Tivoli backup client via the Utilities menu item. There select: TSM Client Scheduler (Help me configure the TSM Client Scheduler), click Next. The item Update a previously installed scheduler is already selected, click on next again, select the name of your scheduler, now all you have to do is click through (make any changes, such as a new password) and finally click on "Finish".

The software can be used to shut down the computer automatically after a successful backup.

To do this, proceed as follows:

1. Open the backup client
2. In the top bar under "Edit" you will find the item "Client defaults", which starts the profile editor.
3. Now switch to "Scheduler". Search here for "Command for schedule" and enter this command in the "Command according to schedule" field:
   shutdown /s
4. Close the profile editor by clicking on "Ok". Then restart the scheduler(System settings -> Administration -> Services -> TSM Client Scheduler).

As soon as the automatic backup is finished, the computer is shut down.
